Clopton Varsity Boy's Basketball Championship Game

On Saturday night, Winfield went face to face with Monroe Highschool. These were the two best teams in the Clopton tournament, but unfortunately the Warriors lost 59-47. Winfield put up a hard fight up against a highly ranked team.

This goes to show how much effort they are putting into the games, and their dedication to the sport, and each other is evident. When asked about dealing with an unfortunate game, Senior Seth Wilder said “ We keep our heads in the game when things aren’t going in our favor.”

The crowd was incredibly excited, you could feel the energy in the room as you walked in. Pressure and tension between the teams was high as well. You could glance at the players and see the sweat on the shoulders and the wetness in their hair.

Even when the warriors started to have things go the opposite way, they stayed positive, and kept their heads in the game. Senior Kannon Schutte said “I learned to let things go if it's out of my control.” He moved with a positive attitude and stayed in good spirits with his teammates.

The team worked hard that week to make it to the finals. Winning it’s first game against Elsberry. They came on strong but the Warriors fought hard for a win. Then on that Thursday, Winfield defeated Clopton to make it to the championship. Winfield felt accomplished to be in the championship game again. Kannon Schutte said “I enjoyed being in another championship game with my team”.

The varsity boys had previously made it to the championship in the Wilfield tournament in December, finishing with a second place finish to Christian High.

“We are definitely more like a family. We are very supportive of each other, and have each other's back no matter what. On the bus rides home, we sing together. Even Coach Keim gets in the mood and joins in.” Senior Kannon Schutte said.

The varsity team plays again tonight at 7 p.m. at Orchard Farm High School.
